Saree Draping Style

Saree is a very elegant and graceful piece of garment. Saree is to be worn with a matching blouse and a petticoat. The petticoat is an ankle length skirt which is to be worn underneath the saree. The petticoat is threaded at the top with elastic or a thin cotton tape, to tie it around the waist. A blouse is a short top cut to fit the body. It may be of short sleeves, long sleeves or sleeveless. The blouse can be matching or in contrast style with the saree. There are several types of saris and many different fashions available in the market now days. Wearing a sari is an art which require practice. The saree is draped counter clockwise. It starts by making a knot on the right side of the abdomen and passed around the waistline in circular motion.

Styles of draping saree -

Saree Sari

1) Ulta pallo style - This is, the most common draping style in India. This drape is generally used in parties, functions and special occasions for enhancing the grace of the saree. Also at office or formal affairs women wear ulta pallo with pleats and tie it neatly with a pin.

2) Bengali style - This style of draping a saree has no pleats. The pallo has a bunch of keys that falls over the shoulder. It is wrapped around the waist, brought to the right side from the back and the pallo is thrown over the left shoulder. Puffy or balloon sleeves blouse or choli gives completes the perfect Bengali look.

3) Gujarati style - It is often called seedha pallo style. In this style of draping, saree is draped over the right shoulder in the front rather than over the left shoulder. It spreads across the chest with light pleats, and the left edge is tucked with a pin in the petticoat at the back.

4) Maharashtrain style - This style of sari draping is common among the women especially in Maharashtra. This sari is draped in a way that the center of the sari is neatly placed at the back of the waist. The ends of the sari are tied securely in the front, and then the two ends are wrapped around the legs allowing greater freedom of movement. This style is quite comfortable form of saree draping.

5) Tamilian style drape - After wrapping around the waist, the pleats are positioned along the left leg. The rest of the sari is taken over the left shoulder, wrapped once again round the waist and tucked on the left side.

6) Lehenga Style - It gives saree a Lehenga look. Small margins are left while draping the saree into the skirt which gives it a very beautiful and graceful look. The dupatta is draped over the head or can be tied with pleats.
